Gorgeous Dog’s Story
Meet Gorgeous Dog. Heartbreaking doesn't even begin to describe it. Gorgeous Dog spent two weeks lying faithfully beside her deceased owner before she was found when officers did a wellness check at her home. She cried as they led her away from the scene. Can you imagine the loyalty and love in her heart?
Because of her age and poor health condition, Gorgeous Dog immediately ended up on the euthanasia list at MAS. Although we don't typically pull from shelters, we knew we needed to help Gorgeous and get her the care she needed to thrive in her senior years. Gorgeous Dog took her freedom ride June 1, 2024 with one of our long-term volunteers. Even though she was a little nervous about her journey, she was so grateful and sweet, constantly thanking Jess with kisses and tail wags. Each time she stopped petting her, Gorgeous politely asked for more love with a gentle paw or kiss.
At 10 years old, underweight at 52 lbs (June 2, 2024), and battling heartworms, Gorgeous Dog's journey to health won't be easy. Malnutrition has left its mark, along with scabby ears, runny eyes, and the telltale signs of years gone by in her worn teeth - some of which may need to be extracted. But we will give her the care and love she deserves. We are deeply grateful for the overwhelming love and support of the Memphis animal welfare community that has rallied around Gorgeous.
Her foster parents describe her as "a perfect angel" and have let us know that she sleeps through the night, has yet to bark once, loves spa music, and watches cartoons on TV! She is a smart gal- she knows to tap the door to go outside and knows commands like sit, wait, stay, no, and come. She’s got a helicopter for a tail (her wag is 360 degrees!), loves burying and hiding all her toys in the house, and enjoys looking at herself in the mirror. Gorgeous Dog is a total lover- she follows her foster parents around to be pet and loved on and likes to sneak into her foster parents’ bed after they have fallen asleep. This girl is a total gem, and now she just needs a loving forever home!
