Joe Quapaw’s Story
June 2026 Foster Update:
Joe Quapaw (affectionately known as Joey or Joe Joe) is the sweetest, goodest boy.
Are you looking for a friend who doesn’t need much? Joey is your boy. All he wants is a comfy couch and a little love. He is house trained and can be left alone for hours without any problems. He doesn’t need much exercise because he just wants to nap all day (he is truly a couch potato).
He knows his commands like sit, wait, come, kennel, shake, speak, and many more.
He does take a few days to be comfortable with his new humans, but once he trusts you, he will be your friend for life.
Joe Joe would do best in a quiet house with a normal routine, but he will also adapt well to his new schedule after a few days.
August 2025 Update:
He’s got the name of a small-town mayor, the face of a rom-com lead, and the cuddling skills of a professional blanket hog.
Joe Quapaw is currently accepting applications for his next role: Full-Time Couch Companion (part-time zoomies included). He’s ready to move in ASAP—whether that’s with a foster family to crash with until his forever home shows up, or an adopter who’s ready to sign a lifetime snuggle contract.
Perks of living with Joe Quapaw:
Built-in best friend
Daily entertainment
Unconditional love (plus a little dog hair—free of charge)
Joe is a shining star who’s ready to find his perfect match! He was adopted quickly upon arrival, but sometimes things don’t work out, and he was returned to us. Joe is impeccably trained, knowing an impressive 21 commands! Sit, down, shake, speak, heel – you name it, he’s got it down pat! This smart boy's love and loyalty for his people are unmatched!
Recently we partnered with Purpose for Paws Camp and sent Joe to their board and train program. Initially very fearful, Joe warmed up and won everyone over within 24 hours. Over a month, he’s gained confidence playing in daycare and interacting well with other dogs on a leash (check out videos of his progress here!). Streetdog Foundation never gives up on a dog who has behavioral quirks, so we owe a huge thanks to Josh and his team for their incredible work and for believing in Joe.
While the work is never over, Joe is about to graduate from the training program, and is ready for a foster or forever home. We’re here to help anyone interested in giving Joe a home by offering continued support and training resources.
Joe’s Ideal Home:
* Ability to provide a structured household and routine
* Provide proper exercise
* Treat Joe as a family member
* Respect Joe’s communication
Joe does best with dogs who are passive and calm.
