Maggie May’s Story
Maggie May’s story started when we received the kind of call from AEC that we never like to get. They told us about a puppy found in the road, covered in maggots and severely malnourished. Knowing this girl was going to need a lot of TLC, we needed to make sure we could secure a committed foster before we could take her in. Thankfully, we had a couple of members of our Streetdog family up for the job!
She is believed to be around 6 months old, but she’s very small for her age. Based on her condition, the doctor suspects she was kept in a filthy cage and never fed. He thinks at one point, she might’ve grown to be 60 lbs. Now it’s hard to say how big she’ll grow, but he said he’ll be surprised if she makes it to 40 lbs.
Overall she’s in pretty bad shape. She’s full of worms, battling a nasty skin infection, and clearly has a long road ahead. But here’s the good news…she’s safe. She’s already started her treatment plan, which includes several small, nutritious meals each day and lots of time in the sunshine to help her heal. She’s going to spend a few days at Grace before moving to her foster home.
Despite everything, this girl still has so much puppy spirit. She was playful, sweet, and mischievous on her car ride, and didn’t blink an eye meeting a big dog at the clinic. She’s got fight in her. And now, she’s got all of us in her corner.
Miss Maggie May has spent the past few days getting some much-needed TLC at Grace, and yesterday she officially moved into her foster home!
She’s now surrounded by love with three human foster brothers, three doggie foster siblings, including our very own SDF alum #sdflacycreek, and even a kitty friend. This house is full of heart, and Maggie fits right in.
She’s already settling in beautifully, showing off her sweet puppy personality. She loves playing with everyone and is clearly soaking up all the joy of finally just being a happy, carefree girl.
Her amazing foster family is making sure she’s on the mend with small, frequent meals, medicated baths, and plenty of sunshine. With all that love and care, we know she’ll be good as new in no time!
